Management/Operations Research Consultant

1991 – Present: Self-Employed

Responsible for the design and implementation of Decision Support Systems using statistics, optimization models and data mining techniques.

• Development and implementation of industry models for strategic planning and marketing: Use of MSAccess & VBA.
• Scheduling system for a coated abrasive plant.
• Inventory/Scheduling systems for fiberglass mat lines: Use of OMNI/OSL for Mixed Integer Programming models.
• Long haul fleet management and routing: Use of GAMS and CPLEX for implementation of network models.
• Implementation of priority heuristics in conjunction with ESRI/ALR routing procedures: Use of VBA and MSAccess
• Risk managed routing, Integration of forecasting and routing: Use of VBA and MSAccess
• Raw material procurement, Design and implementation of a raw material procurement system including forecasting, inventory management and truck load optimization: Use of VBA and MSAccess
• Customer level forecasting, implementation of statistical forecasting routines using heuristics and market intelligence to determine the most appropriate model for a given customer in an environment with limited available data: Use of SAS/STATS and SAS/ETS
• Forecasting by means of pattern recognition, Identification of relevant customer attributes to determine forecasting parameters of customers with limited or corrupted date by association with group of statistically predictable customers with similar range of attributes: Use of SAS/STATS
.
• Data normalization, implementation of heuristics aimed at identifying inconsistency in operational data and correct the resulting data artifacts my means of smoothing techniques or signal substitution best suited to maintain the stationarity of the observed process while reporting the detected singularities to allow user to qualify and modify the assumptions relative to the operational data (i.e., exceptions such as raw material shortage, depressed demand, customer activity curtailment: Use of SAS/STATS
.
• Completion of a comprehensive analysis of customer survey designed to identify key strategic vectors for management consideration. Use of SAS/STATS and MSAccess for statistical analysis (factor analysis, hypothesis testing and correspondence analysis). Use of QSR NUD*IST for text analysis.
• Prototype system designed to expand the capabilities of ESRI/ALR to optimize visiting nurse schedule. This system required implementation of a multi day routing constrained by the sequence of skills required by patients. The constraints were derived from a patient questionnaire that controlled a VB logic designed to calculate the appropriate sequence and conditions of multiple ALR calls.
• Design of data warehousing system for transportation planning: Use of SAS/Warehouse Administrator and SAS/OLAP.
• Design of a pricing model to support pricing negotiations with power companies: Use of OMNI/OSL for mix integer optimization.
• Exploration of the relationship between financial market conditions and process flow at GMAC. Optimization of process flow: Use of queuing theory principles implemented in SAS.
